They seem to like resting on this bare tree branch. I took this picture from about 20 feet away. Isn't the sky the prettiest blue you've ever seen?

Don't have many words these days

Not much to write about these days. Don't feel like I have a very good supply of words.

Tonight Autumn and Eryn will be here from about 5:30-10:00. I am so glad Steve will be home because I know I am going to have my hands full.

Fall is here and I can really feel her. I can feel the transition and the shift of the planet. I am also feeling shifts and transitions in my own life. A bit unsettling but I knew it was coming up.

Off to work. Thank you Creator for my job and ability to earn the money I need. Please help those who are not as fortunate.

My new hours give me a few minutes to play on the computer before I leave home in the mornings. I enjoy reading my LJ friends posts. Nice way to start my day.

Today it's cool and rainy here. I slept real deep last night and my dreams were very vivid and a bit disturbing. It's time to leave for work now and I am still feeling a little groggy. Gotta shake it. Coffee will help.

The day I was an elephant Kleenex

faunhaert wanted to hear the story of when I was an elephant Kleenex so I decided to add it to my journal.

Years ago when my kids where young children we used to visit the Springfield Missouri Zoo. It's a cute little zoo which has a very good variety of animals and animal habitats. On one visit we bought some elephant snacks and feed them to an elephant. The snacks looked like industrial graham crackers, the trainer had to order the elephant to eat the snacks. We could just tell they were not very tasty by her expression.

The next time we made our weekly trip to the public library my kids wanted elephant books. They really wanted to know what kinds of foods elephants LIKED to eat. Found out they eat almost any fruit or vegetable.

The next trip to the zoo I threw a few little apples in my purse. When we got to the elephant compound, I asked the elephant attendant if we could share our apples with the elephant. I was so surprised when he said yes. The kids each held out an apple, the elephant reached out her big trunk and very eagerly took the apples from their hands. She seemed to REALLY like apples. I fed her one too. Then the big trunk hovered around my purse looking for more. I told the big gal sorry I didn't have any more apples and opened my purse wide so she could see. The big trunk gently swept across my chest with a soft snort leaving a little trail of sticky elephant snot and a few pieces of hay! It wasn't terribly yucky and brushed off easily. My kids laughed and giggled! Mama was an elephant Kleenex!

I wonder was this the elephants way of saying thanks or was she telling me I was a big tease for bringing such a small amount of tasty apples.

What great news! North Korea releasing Laura Ling and Euna Lee after Bill Clinton's visit. I don't think these two women should have been there. It was very risky and they got caught. But 12 years hard labor in a North Korean prison would have been a very hard punishment. Thank you Mr. Clinton for making the trip and jumping through the hoops for Kim Jong-il.

Morning has broken...

Morning has broken, BIG dogs have spoken... Don't know what was going on outside this morning but ALL the big dogs next door decided for me that I would not be sleeping in. Makes me cranky. I am not mad at the dogs, they are doing what dogs do. I feel sorry for the dogs. They have terrible living conditions and not nearly enough room. I am pissed at my inconsiderate neighbors. I am tired of their messy stinky yard. I am tired of their ugly fence which is rotten and falling down. They patch their fence with whatever materials they have on hand. Layers of ugly.

I continue to struggle with the urge to call the city to report my neighbor's many code violations : ( Bitch, bitch, bitch!

On a much more positive note, Steve and I will build a porch roof over our back door deck. When we had our big Sycamore tree we had lots of morning shade there and didn't need a roof for shade. Now the morning sun beats through the doors and warms our family room too much some days. Plus it'll be nice to have a dry outside area in the backyard too.

Steve has some good lumber on hand that really needs to be used too. The proverbial killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
: )

Crying doggie and more weird dreams

Really loud thunder very early this morning. Isn't it amazing how you can be outta bed before you wake up?

Toby started crying at 4AM. I don't want to teach him to cry for me so I listened to him for an hour : ( He doesn't usually seem to mind sleeping in his crate but this morning he wanted OUT!

Fell asleep in the recliner with Toby in my lap and had my usual weird dreams. Almost felt drugged. Dreams were about calling in sick to work but then going to the school's auction. Saw my boss and other school people at the auction - duh! busted! My cell phone was ringing but I couldn't find it in my purse because there were LOTS of old papers and junk in my purse. Some of the papers were from 10 years ago (dang I carried that purse a long time!).

Now it's too wet to mow but it's suppose to be cooler this weekend. But who knows what the weekend will bring. Maybe a baby!

Haunted house dreams

Sitting here this morning reading my friends LJ enteries when the phone rang. EVERY time the phone rings I think we've got a baby on the way! But that wasn't it. It was my dear hubby. He was scheduled to umpire a BIG tournament this weekend. A few days ago he found out it wasn't going to be as big as anticipated. Not 3 days as planned but just one. The reason he called was to tell me it didn't make at all. So weird. I guess that just shows you how the recession affects so many things including youth sports. I certainly don't mind having hubby around the house : )

Slept late this morning and this was just an invitation for dreams. I have very detailed and strange dreams. This one might make a good movie. My family and I had just moved into a big beautiful house with an ocean view. I wasn't the mom but a teenage daughter (could actually feel teenage emotions - real scary!). The house had a lot of the things left by the family that had lived there before, furniture, electronics, toys, etc. Of course the house was haunted too. I was glad when I woke up to my real self - a middle age woman with a really bad case of bed head!

And now I will vacuum! What an exciting life I live ; )

July 9th already?

It's a nice cool quiet morning here. Toby is laying behind me in my chair which puts his nice little warm body on my lower back - feels so good! I swear this little dog knows when I have body aches. He is always snuggling up to me comforting my achey knees, ankles, etc.

No real plans for today. I feel like I need to hang loose in case Jessica goes into labor. Need to put out my trash and maybe I'll do a little yard work. I really need to go see Amber and Katelyn today. Maybe this afternoon I'll go over there and take my carpet steam cleaner.

Summer is slipping away. Can't believe it's already July 9th!

Blanket shopping

Dental cleaning went better than last time. The new hygienist was very nice and understanding of my jaw problems. Feeling a little achey today. My face hurts and so does my neck, head and shoulders but it's not too bad. Now I have 6 months before I have to do it again.

Daughter had her OB appointment today. Her doc says everything is looking like we'll have a baby soon.

While Autumn's mommy and daddy went to the doctor we ran to the store and picked out a special blanket for Baby Erin. First we picked up a box of star shaped sugar cookies waiting at 3 year old eye level as we entered the store : } Autumn didn't seem to interested in picking out a blanket and just grabbed the first one she saw but then she saw one she liked better and then she saw a "Dora" blanket! And that was all it took! Baby Eryn now has a Dora the Explorer blanket waiting for her. I have a Dora blanket here at my house but this one is different and it's a special blanket.

Daughter and SIL didn't stay long when they came to pick up Autumn. SIL had to be at work at 1:00.

Now I need to decide what to do with the rest of my day. Outside work is not an option today cuz it's HOT. Inside it feels like nap time to me. I slept late this morning but don't seem to be able to get enough sleep lately.

shoplifting story

Over a week ago when I went shopping I saw a shoplifter being stopped by the employees at Wal-Mart. The shoplifter was screaming "Leave me alone! Help me!" Looked like about 5 or 6 managers were laying on him. One of the managers said "He bit me!".

Later on another trip I saw a friend of mine who works there and she told me the details. The guy was stealing BBQ chicken from the deli. He bit THREE employees. One employee had to go to the hospital. What is this world coming to? If the shoplifter was hungry and could not buy food, I would think he could have gone about this is a different way. I wonder if he is a repeat offender. I see more and more people standing on street corners with cardboard signs saying they need help.

What would you do if you were really in need of help? If you were hungry and had no way of buying food?

new week

Considered sleeping in but didn't. Really needed to start my laundry.

I am going to sit with Mom this morning while she gets her chemo treatment. She said last week went a lot quicker for her. I think it was because of the cute little puppy sleeping on her lap.

This seems to be a week of doctor appointments - today/Mom, tomorrow/I go to the dentist, Wednesday Jessica/OB appointment IF she's still pregnant. I would not be surprised to get the call any minute that she's headed to the hospital to deliver.

Really enjoyed having my hubby home for 3 days. I know he was ready to go back to work. It's hard for him to sit around and relax. Sure glad I don't have that problem!

What I MUST do... what can I put off?

Today I MUST mow the lawn. I really can't put it off another day. Takes me about an hour with the push mower if I work fast. Good exercise. The grass is really wet now so I have to wait probably an hour so the sun can dry it and heat things up real good.

I'll have my granddaughter for a little while this afternoon. Mom might come too for a little play time. Mom is used to keeping Autumn while Jessica is at work but Jessica took her maternity leave about 6 weeks ago. Mom is really missing Autumn but the timing with Mom's illness couldn't have worked out better if it had been planned. Hopefully Mom will be back to full speed when Jessica goes back to work. Plans at this time are Mom will care for Autumn and new baby Eryn. I think this is also part of Mom's treatment : ) She really wants her babies!

Another thing I MUST do today is unload my Jeep. I have a small computer desk I bought for my son. He wants it but not right now : } Also a Pack & Play I bought at a yard sale yesterday. Two big sheets of stained glass from a sale 2 weeks ago, a box of old baseball/archery trophies and one more box of little pieces of wood. Maybe I should be unloading my Jeep right now while I am waiting for the grass to dry out. Maybe I should be doing that INSTEAD of playing on the computer??

Change of plans

Instead of going to do my grocery shopping this morning as planned, I decided I'd go and sit with my mom during her chemo treatment.

Mom seemed glad to see me even if she had told me it wasn't necessary and I'd just be wasting my time. The treatment room is pleasant with lots of natural light. The staff is so sweet and caring. They even bake bread for the patients. One woman who works there brings her precious little girl puppy dressed in a doggie dress with a bow in her hair to sit on anyone's lap that wants her. Mom had the puppy sleeping in her lap almost the entire time. When the bread was ready they asked each patient what kind of spread they wanted - apple butter, cherry jam, blue berry preserves... They even gave me one too! Big thick slice of hot out of the bread maker bread. I think it's might be part of the cure along with puppy kisses.

After the treatment was over, I went and did my grocery shopping. Saw a shop lifter getting caught. He put up a big fight and even bit some employees. Ouch. Too much excitement for me.

Came home to an insulting letter in my mailbox from Senator Jack Goodman. Looks like Jackie boy is running for Congress and is asking for my help. His letter mentioned the "Obama/Pelosi regime" and "radical politicians". I started to call his office to be removed from his mailing list but there was NO phone number or email address, just a p.o. box. I did find his email address online and sent him a message. I also told him we needed to pull together. I told him to get with it or get out. He'll probably never see my message. Oh well.

Good decision

1 hour driving
2 hours waiting in the waiting room
1 shot in Toby's butt
$75 for office call/shot/and LOTS of Front Line

Toby not scratching - priceless!

The waiting room was pretty wild with lots of people, children and animals. Visited with a lady from South Dakota who was very nice and interesting. Four kids kept coming over and playing with Toby. Toby seemed to enjoy them. I really like this vet. He talks fast but explains so much. Gave me lots of info and didn't talk down. I told him we had been treating Toby's itching with demerol... I mean benedryll. Doc laughed.

Glad I made the decision to take Toby in this morning. I needed to replenish our supply of Front Line too. They will sell me the package of big dog frontline so I can dose it down for all my animals. Saves lots of money doing it this way.

Didn't really see many yard sales this morning. Probably because of the heat wave we're having plus the upcoming 4th of July. Stopped very briefly at one on the way home. Parked in the shade with the windows down a couple of inches and wasn't gone more than 3-4 minutes. Didn't buy much just a little cherub planter "Made in Japan".

Toby is sleeping at my feet now. No wonder he's not scratching, he's passed out!

to go or not to go??

I am trying to decide if I need to take Toby to the vet this morning. He had a couple of flea bites this week and he must be allergic to flea bites. Tried to take him to the doc on Thursday but was told we could come in this morning 8-12 as a walk-in. Toby seemed to be much better last night with doggie anti-itch spray and benedryl. But this morning he's digging and biting himself. I don't really want to go sit and wait without an appointment. I don't really want to drive the 20 miles each way. I don't really want to have to drive by thousands of tempting rummage sales! After typing my reasons I feel very selfish. Guess I just better get ready and take Toby to see his doctor. Isn't it weird how seeing something in writing can help to make a decision?
